NORBERT (NORB) JAKUBKE
Wood Carver
Norbert (Norb) Jakubke is a Gibsons-based woodcarver whose journey began in childhood, inspired by his father, Horst, a master miniaturist. Following a long career as a designer, creative director, and storyteller, he turned his creative energy to carving, blending visual imagination with traditional craftsmanship.
While a member of Klee Wyck Carvers, under the mentorship of Terry Starr of the Tsimshian Nation, Norb built a foundation in Indigenous carving techniques while developing his own playful, reflective style. His recent series—including A Murder of Crows, Aquatic, and The Tube Family—balance humour, poetry, and environmental awareness, often reflecting the natural rhythms of the Sunshine Coast.
From his Gibsons studio, Norb carves works rich with personality and story. He shares this life of creativity with his wife, painter Ilona Kostolansky, inspired by the coastal light that surrounds them.
